Dancing with the Ghost of John Cage, Black Mountain College, Asheville, North Carolina
This performance was filmed in the site-specific location of Robert E. Lee Hall. It was the site of Black Mountain College for its first eight years, 1933-1941. Black Mountain College was experimental by nature and committed to an interdisciplinary approach, attracting a faculty that included many of America's leading visual artists, composers, poets, and designers. John Cage was among them. In this performance I evoked the spirit of Cage by draping microphones over my body and dancing to silence. The sound composition was created by the chance sounds of the microphones bumping into each other and my body.
